A MEITY Government report says India’s electronics manufacturing industry is about $75 billion in 2020-21, with the potential to grow 4 fold to $300 billion in 5 years. The consumer electronics sector in particular is expected to show spectacular growth. India is in the top 3 in the world when it comes to number of digital users. The government has come out with several policies toward subsidising and incentivising the manufacture of electronics in the country. PLI, Scheme for Promotion of Electronics Components and Semiconductors, National Policy on Electronics 2019, Digital India and Make in India are some of these. Increased domestic production of mobile phones and the likely setting up of semiconductor units are just some of the better known developments in the sector.
